Greetings!

Welcome to the Humane Society of Berks County's Kennel Kapers Online! We hope that you find it useful, informative, and that it will give you a better idea of our efforts to save the thousands of homeless, abused and neglected animals needing our help each year.

 Outsider In
April Furry Friday features OutsiderFolkArt Gallery

Jim Bloom- Untitled The HSBC tries hard to "think outside the box". This month's Furry Friday exhibition features artists who never set foot inside the box in the first place! The OutsiderFolkArt Gallery will be displaying a wide variety of "outsider", self-taught, and non-traditionally inspired artists.

As always, there'll be great food, beer, wine, and non- alcholic beverages, courtesy of our wonderful corporate partners and, best of all, it's free! Swing on by, have a nibble and a swig, visit the animals, and maybe buy some great art (a portion of the proceeds always go to the animals). All this and more, this Friday, April 13, from 5:00 to 7:30 pm at the HSBC's 11th Street shelter.

 Our Cats Deserve the Best
So we gave it to them!

Cat Adoption Center The long wait is over and we are adopting cats at a furious pace out of Berks County's newest marvel: the HSBC Cat Adoption Center. If you haven't seen it yet, stop in for a visit (maybe at the April Furry Friday!). Did you bring a bag lunch to work? Bring it by the shelter and eat it with the cats! They'd love the company!

Even though I've been living and breathing this project for months, I still start and end every day just sitting in one of the comfy chairs with the cats- it's that cool! Now, just wait until you see what we can do for the dogs...

 HSBC Program Update
Free To A Great Home Expansion

Theo In our ongoing effort to get every pet a great home, the HSBC has expanded its "Free To A Great Home" program to provide an incentive to get older, harder to place animals adopted. Now, all cats 11 years and older and dogs 8 years and older can be adopted free of charge. All normal adoption policies, requirements, and benefits apply.

We hope that the success we had with this program in saving older cats in the summer months will work for cats and dogs year round. It's one of the ways that the HSBC is stretching the limits of "traditional" animal welfare approaches to try to help even more animals. Stop in and adopt an older pet today!

 New Board Member
HSBC welcomes Rep. Dante Santoni to Board

Dante Santoni It takes a great team to field a winning organization and the HSBC has one of the best. A new member is joining our great team of volunteers, staff, donors, and Board this month. Representative Dante Santoni (PA 126th) has long been a strong supporter of the HSBC's mission. Now, he steps into an even bigger leadership role as a member of the HSBC Board of Directors.

We look forward to Dante's help as we continue to make leaps and bounds forward in our efforts to improve the lives of animals in Berks County and beyond!
