 Furry Friday Features Botanical Art
Floral Creations by W. Eugene Burkhart, Jr.

Burkhart Art The May Furry Friday will be more like Floral Friday! Eugene Burkhart will display his unique "paintings" made of flowers, leaves, and other real botanical elements.

Stop in this Friday, May 11, from 5 to 7:30 PM, for a bite, a drink, some great art, and check out the progress on Dr. Kelly Bendixsen's, our new HSBC staff veterinarian, new public exam and treatment area. Of course, don't forget your chance to say, "Hi!" to the most adoptable pets in Berks County. Bring a few friends with you!

 Ani-Meals On Wheels
 Another groundbreaking partnership!

Office of Aging Logo One of the best ways to help the animals at the HSBC is to keep them from coming to our shelter in the first place. That's why we created Ani-Meals On Wheels. By delivering monthly pet food and care packages to seniors in need, we can help them to keep their pets where they belong- at home.

The Humane Society is proud to announce another groundbreaking service partnership that will help to benefit even more animals and their people. Beginning in May, the HSBC has partnered with the Berks County Office of Aging to bring Ani-Meals On Wheels Services directly to those receiving Meal On Wheels services.

One Meals On Wheels service provider summed it up best: "We deliver meals on wheels every other week and this is a need that is finally being addressed. Staff and I see that the elderly will give their animals the meal or a portion of it. This will be a tremendous help to all."

 HSBC Has Some New Faces
Spike and Tilly join the family

Spike You may have noticed some new faces popping up at the HSBC recently. They belong to Spike and Tilly, the creations of artist Adrienne Trafford. Adrienne has been among the most popular artists featured at Furry Fridays and the Arf's Art Auction. Now she's turned her talents to helping to develop some new "spokes-dogs & cats" for the HSBC!

Spike (right) and his little kitten friend, Tilly, will soon grace the HSBC's memorial cards, website, and program materials. Keep checking back to the website for updated bios for Spike, Tilly, and all Adrienne's other original creations. Click on Spike to go to Adrienne's blogspot.

 It's Kitten Season Again!
Adopt a kitten and an older cat today

Adopt Tanya! It's the time of year when kittens come in by the carload and space starts getting very, very tight in open door shelters like the HSBC. If you've been considering adding a kitten to your family, why not do it now? While you're at it, consider getting it a big brother or sister at the same time!

By adopting an older cat, you open up a cage space for a whole litter of kittens. Plus, our new adoption pricing means you could take home a mature adult for not a penny more. Save two lives at once! Please forward this adoption reminder to a friend or co-worker right now! Just click on the "Forward to a Friend" link below.

More on adoption here...
