Reader's Request
"Rescued Animal Follow Up"
Our Reader's Request this issue features a
successful rescue and highlights a great program. It
was two years ago that HSBC staff and volunteers
travelled to New Orleans to help with the Katrina
recovery and rescue effort. Four homeless dogs were
transported back to Reading, where three where
successfully adopted (one succumbed to cancer).
One of the adopted dogs, Roscoe, now spends his
life with Stephanie Gladfelter, who shares this
personal
note with us:
"I cannot even imagine my life without Roscoe. It is
hard to believe that two years ago, he was wandering
around a flooded city, sick, and just trying to survive. It
breaks my heart to think of him in that condition. His
strength has been amazing and the unconditional love
that he has provided to my family has been
unmatched. Roscoe has been my ultimate friend and
protector; he makes sure that I am safe and happy
and never leaves my side. He is the happiest dog that
I have ever met; there is not a day goes by that he
does not greet me while smiling and wagging his tail
viciously! I am so grateful for Roscoe and to the
Humane Society of Berks County for rescuing him."
Katrina was a reminder that disasters can and do
happen. And they can happen here. That's why
the HSBC is the lead agency for the Berks County
Animal Response Team. Berks CART is here to help
ensure that the debacle that followed Katrina won't
happen in Berks County. If you are interested in
volunteering, providing support for Berks CART, or
signing up for the new Berks CART Update e-
newsletter,
please visit our website for more details.
