30 Day Adoption Health Guarantee
Every animal adopted from HSBC is placed up for adoption having received a clean bill of health by our staff veterinarians, having been spayed or neutered (cats and dogs), and having been vaccinated for common illnesses and rabies, as well as having received basic de-worming medications.
However, sometimes an animal may come down with simple illnesses due to the stress of being adopted. Although these simple illnesses, such as feline upper respiratory infections and canine kennel cough, may be easy to treat, they can add additional cost and concern for the adopter.
That's why the Humane Society of Berks County provides a 30-Day Adoption Health Guarantee for all adopted pets. If your new pet had a cold brewing, had some intestinal parasites, or several other covered conditions, the Humane Society picks up the cost of providing treatment for those illnesses during the first thirty days following adoption. It's one small way we can help to make the transition to a home a little easier and inspire more people to adopt. In addition, you first veterinary exam at one of our two veterinary hospitals is free when scheduled at the time of adoption.
Other treatments, vaccinations, diagnostic testing and procedures may be billable and you should thoroughly discuss all procedures and potential costs with the HSBC vets before authorizing treatment.
