A Multi-Year Giving Society

Homeless animals don't adopt themselves, injured animals can't drive their own ambulance, and abused animals can't prosecute their own owners. They need the HSBC to do it for them.

Unfortunately, the cost of doing all these things has increased year after year but the revenue needed hasn't kept pace. Animal shelters like the HSBC have long relied on wills and bequests to make up budget shortfalls. In good years, plenty of money came in. In bad years, it didn't, leading to cuts in programs, hours, and services. Across the country, wills and bequests are becoming less reliable as people increasingly diversify their estate donations. Of course, the HSBC loves its friends and supporters and we never want to think of a year that one of our supporters passes away as "a good year".

So we went to some of our best friends and asked them to help us to continue to be able to deliver vital services by making a commitment to the animals now. The result is the Best Friends Forever Multi-Year Giving Society! Since its creation, hundreds of our best friends have helped us plan for the future by making longer-term, multi-year commitments to the HSBC mission.

Whether they joined the Society at the Best Buddy, Constant Companion, or Forever Friend levels or started at a more modest level, the people listed below helped the HSBC to continue to offer award-winning services and to plan for the future without having us worry quite so much about the health of our donors and friends (although we still encourage folks to remember the HSBC in their estate planning through the Lindy Scholar Legacy Society!).

We still have a long way to go before we can stop worrying completely about funding for the vital programs and services so needed in Berks County and beyond, but the BFF Society Founders stepped up to make sure we are started on the path!

Our thanks go to all those who joined us at our 2008 BFF Breakfast this past May 28, 2008. We welcomed many, many new Best Friends who have made a commitment to the animals of Berks County!
