Rebecca Ross:

"My artworks are made with oil pastel and wax crayon.  I use these materials to create my own scratch board on museum board a heavy archival board often used for matting.  I begin by blocking out areas of fluorescent, metallic and glitter crayon for the base coat. This is what will show through.  I choose the location and size of the blocks of color based on the placement of figures or symbols in the final drawing.

After laying the base coat I cover it with oil crayons.  As with the first coat different colors are put over different areas. The work is both additive and subtractive. The subtractive aspect is that scratching produces half of the drawing.  I use pen nibs made for scratchboard, combs, razor blades, clay working tools and map-making tools."

Furry Fridays

Join us for a special double header Furry Friday Open House on Friday, May 9, from 5:00 to 7:30 PM!

Furry Fridays feature art exhibitions by local artists (with a portion of sales supporting the Humane Society), drinks & light fare, news about the great new things happening at the HSBC, tours, and chance to say "Hi!" to the animals.

Visit the HSBC (1801 N. 11th Street, Reading, next to beautiful Albright College) on Friday, May 9, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, for a special double showing!  Rebecca Ross will be showing her vibrant and colorful geometric pieces and the Kindred Spirits Too Quilt Guild will be displaying some of theirdetailed and amazing work!

Bring a friend (or three!) have some great food and drink from our sponsors Legacy Brewing, Barefoot Wine, and Reading Coffee Roasters!
