About Us

The Humane Society of Berks County offers a wide variety of programs designed to positively impact the lives of animals and people in Berks County and beyond. The HSBC tries not only to react to and address crisis facing animals, we work to address the root causes of the problems facing animals in our society.

Through our lost and found services, cruelty law enforcement, homeless pet housing services, Ani-Meals On Wheels, and animal control duties, the HSBC is there for pets in need, when they need us to be there. Through our nationally recognized PetNet program, our role as lead agency for the Berks County Animal Response Team (Berks CART), Inter-Agency Partnerships, and our education programs, we are working to be prepared for the future and make a positive impact tomorrow through planning and work today.

Many of our services are listed here and you may click on a link for more information about them. If you require additional assistance, information, or have a suggestion for program additions or improvements, please contact the shelter at (610) 921-2348 or by emailing.

Complete, comprehensive veterinary services are available to the public.

Complete veterinary services are offered to pet owners at the 1801 N. 11th Street, Reading, facility.  Services range from comprehensive veterinary services to reduced fee, limited vaccination, microchipping, and sterilization services for those who cannot afford or will not obtain full, proper veterinary care for their pets.  Please visit our Vets page (click here) for complete details.

The Humane Society of Berks County provides these services Monday through Saturday by appointment at its 11th Street shelter.  Call 610-921-2348, ext. 12, for appointments. All dogs must display a current Berks County Dog License or must purchase one to receive reduced cost services.  Please ensure that dogs are leashed and cats are properly secured in a travel carrier.

Meeting Space

The Humane Society of Berks County is a community-based non-profit.  We try to help other area organizations in any way we can.  One way is to offer meeting space to community organizations for meetings, training, and other activities.  There is no charge for using our facilities and we can provide meeting basics like tables and chairs.  However, there may be limitations based on space and our schedule.  If your group would like to meet at the HSBC, please contact Damon March, Operations Director at 610-921-2348, ext. 18 or dmarch@berkshumane.org.
