Dog Licensing*
Pennsylvania Law requires that all dogs over 12 weeks of age have and display a Pennsylvania Dog License issued from the County in which the dog resides. Your pet is your responsibility! License your dog now. It's the law and it may save your pet's life. You may purchase a current license at the HSBC, the County Treasurer Office, or many other locations throughout Berks County. Or you can download an application for a license by mail clicking the thumbnail below*:
2010 Pennsylvania (Berks County) Dog Licenses are here! (Don't live in Berks? Click here). If you are a current Pennsylvania (Berks County) Dog License holder, you should have received an application courtesy of the HSBC in the mail in December, 2008. If you didn't get one or lost yours, you can pick up your license at the HSBC Scholar Center (Reading)or download the application and mail it in! Pennsylvania law prohibits requiring any additional fee for issuing a dog license by mail. However, we hope that you will consider making a voluntary donation when you send in your application to help cover our additional costs (remember, this service is not tax subsidized at the HSBC) and to help all the animals in need. Thank you!
Remember, most strays in Berks County end up in shelters like the HSBC. These shelters are private, non-profit charities that provide these stray boarding services at a financial loss as part of our charitable mission. Many people are under the impression that the State or County pays for all the costs associated with providing food, housing, and medical care to lost pets. In fact, the government provides NO portion of the costs. We have to pick up 100% of the cost of carting for these homeless pets. We hope you'll be here for us to help us do it!
The Humane Society of Berks County is not permitted to issue licenses to residents outside Berks County. If you are a Mongomery or Chester County resident, you can find license information at the following websites: www.montcopa.org and www.chesco.org/dog.
