*Sliding Scale & Reduced Cost Services*
For those requiring a little extra assistance, the Veterinary Hospital of the Humane Society of Berks County has several ways to help. Those facing a sudden, major health care expense may apply for CareCredit, a health care credit program provided by an outside company that provides loans for veterinary health care expenses.
Those on government assistance, seniors living exclusively on Social Security, and those already enrolled in HSBC programs such as Ani-Meals On Wheels, are eligible to pre-apply for sliding scale rates. These rates provide a 33% to 50% reduction in the costs to provide veterinary care. This program is needs based and requires pre-approval.
The HSBC also provides additional extremely low cost services to ensure that all pets have access to minimum legal, safety, and health care requirements such as vaccinations, sterilization, and microchipping. These programs are intended for those who would otherwise not be able or willing to provide any care for their pets. Low cost vaccination and microchip clinics are available on a weekly basis and are on a first come, first served.
Special sterilization programs are also available for feral cats.
Please contact the Humane Society for more information about any of these special programs.
Low Cost Pet Sterilization, Microchipping and Vaccination Services*
The Veterinary Hospital of the Humane Society of Berks County offers top quality services and the highest standard of care for our clients and their pets. However, not everyone is able or willing to provide this level of care for their animals for a variety of reasons. Because the HSBC's mission calls for providing sterilization and vaccination services to all pets in need, we offer absolute bare-bones sterilization, vaccination, and microchipping services at reduced rates. These programs are intended to decrease unwanted litters, ensure legal vaccine compliance and the health of pets, and ensure the safe return of strays.
The Humane Society of Berks County strongly encourages all low cost clients to consider becoming actual clients of the Veterinary Hospital rather than just utilizing the low cost services. It is better and safer for your pet! Research has shown that among the best ways to ensure that your pet is happy, healthy, safe, and never ends up in an animal shelter is by having a regular relationship with a veterinarian. We will be happy to assist you with qualifying for sliding scale rates based upon your income.
If you choose only to take advantage of the HSBC's limited service, low cost programs, these services are offered on a first come, first served basis, during set, limited hours (contact the HSBC at 610-921-2348, ext. 12, for low cost clinic hours). Clients will be assigned numbers in the order they arrive. Liability waivers for all low cost services must be signed prior to service.
Fees for low cost vaccination and microchipping clinics are:
Vaccinations: $16-$22 per vaccination
Microchipping: $16 per microchip
All dogs served at the low cost clinic must display or purchase a current PA Dog License ($6.50 to $8.50) or service will be refused.
Fees for low cost sterilization clinics are:
Male Dog: $90
Female Dog: $100
Male Cat: $55
Female Cat: $70
Pregnant animals, animals in heat, and cryptorchid males will be assessed an additional 25% fee.
Vaccinations and microchipping may be obtained during sterilization for the above listed rates.
Due to the increase danger to your pet, animals over five years will not be eligible for the low cost sterilization program.
